The building at 431 Broome Street, New York, has spent the last seven years undergoing a major facelift, but now the bandages are off and the 1825 Federal Revival style property looks even better than ever, newly branded as boutique hotel The Broome. SoHo entrepreneurs Vincent Boitier and brothers Jean Claude and Stephane Iacovelli are the driving forces pushing The Broome, sweeping out (and I quote) “bohemian graffiti vandals” from the premises’ loft space, continuing the area’s regeneration into a swankier neighbourhood.
Now free of riff-raff and smartly-appointed, the building’s 14 rooms over five floors are arranged around a central atrium. One of the most notable features of The Broome is the artwork from the owners’ private collections, by notable bohemian graffiti vandals of the past such as Basquiat and Haring. Oh the irony. Anyway, if interior design is your bag you may like to know that a lot of the particularly nice pieces are from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Head up to the roof terrace to soak up the SoHo atmosphere, as the rooms are fitted with noise blocking glazing for a restful night’s sleep.
