“We’ve been to Button Moon, we’ve followed Mr Spoon, Button Moon….” Eh? Great times. Anyway, My Moon has got nothing to do with British children’s TV shows from the 1980s, so enough of that nonsense. This is almost as cool, however, being a restaurant in the Williamsburg district of Brooklyn, NYC. It’s a place which distinguishes itself from the rank and file eateries of the neighbourhood with its design, based around an industrial look born out of the venue’s former incarnation, and some atmospheric lighting that is out of this world.
The building was, in the 18th Century, a steam factory which later became the boiler room for a clothing manufacturer next door. The current owner Bener Bilgin got involved in the early 21st Century, bringing in designer Ruggero Ruggeroni to manage the transition to hospitality while maintaining the sense of robust functionality in the fixtures and fittings. My Moon has been open for nearly 10 years now, and is standing the test of time very well indeed, initially offering cuisine from Bilgin’s native Turkey but recently adapting the menu to include a more Spanish flavour. Especially notable for the huge outdoor area, with a great view of the night sky.
