Many a romantic soul has leant in wistful contemplation on one of the river Seine’s many marvellous bridges, pondering the nature of life and love, wondering at the beauty of the city, and watching the boats pass beneath them through the great stone archways. At least that’s what the foreign tourists do in romantic comedies. Parisians have probably got better things to do than stand about thinking, like earning a living, and being places on time. Artists, however, have a different way of going about things, and it was while doing a spot of contemplative bridge leaning that photographer Adrian Skenderovic became interested in the boats passing below; his vantage point afforded an interesting perspective on the people and objects on deck.
The shape of the hull cutting through the water, the colourful seating, and the tourists’ behaviour and their relationships with one another – unaware of observation and captured in an instant – was an interesting Parisian story for Skenderovic. We agree, and you can see the series Down the River on the photographer’s website, along with other previous street photography projects.
