I will not mention “the craic”… I will not mention “the craic”… Ah hell, let’s face it, having a good time is the reason most people visit Dublin, but it can be tricky finding somewhere to stay outside of the two main categories: sober luxury hotel or carnage-riven hostel. It’s nice to come across a place which occupies a comfortable common ground between the two. The Dean is smart and stylish enough for grown-up business, but also fun and friendly for those wanting a base from which to get amongst it.
The Dean, on Harcourt Street, is perfectly placed for enjoying Dublin’s nightlife. The room choices are well thought out too, with small Punk Bunk rooms set up for sharing, and Mod Pods a smaller alternative to standard doubles as a place to get your head down. Equipment levels vary with room size, but there’s plenty of in-room entertainment throughout including retro Marshall sounds and dial telephones, and fully-stocked SMEG fridges. Whopping smart TVs and Rega record players are provided in larger rooms for those who want to spend more time in-room, with a Penthouse Loft with a private kitchen and cocktail bar, poker and fussball tables and Ploum sofas for the high-rollers. The Dean invested €250,000 in its art collection, ensuring guests get a fix of culture whether they realise it or not, and contributes to the hotel’s upmarket feel. There’s rooftop terrace bar, and a swankier ground floor venue providing a choice of places to get things started, plus a restaurant, Sophie’s, for relaxed dining.
