And the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Recording Package goes to…. Stanley Donwood, for his special edition of Radiohead’s album Amnesiac. You might not have known that the Grammy Awards hand out a gong for album art, but they do, and Stanley, aka Dan Rickwood, has one proudly sitting on the mantelpiece. The English artist’s collaboration with Radiohead began when he met Thom Yorke at Exeter University, and Donwood has worked with the band on all their releases, Yorke’s solo projects and Atoms For Peace.
That’s a lot of material, and pretty much all of it will be on display at a comprehensive retrospective and interactive exhibition coming up in Sydney. The Panic Office show takes things back to Donwood’s first project in 1994, and includes thousands of pieces of artwork from Radiohead albums such as OK Computer, Kid A and In Rainbows. There will be original paintings, prints and drawings to enjoy too. Semi-Permanent Sydney at Carriageworks is the venue, 21 May to 6 June are your dates.
