How many of you would cheerfully admit that you can’t function without your first double espresso of the day? Think about that for a minute. Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate the morning routine, dial down the voltage at breakfast time and introduce some much-needed calm into your lives that will set the tone for the rest of the day. Or maybe your healthy breakfast is followed up by a rushed lunch with too much focus on convenience and not enough on nutrition?
Walk Don’t Run is the perfect place for Melburnians to begin the process of change. The café in Armadale is a partnership between chef Ryo Doyama and the chaps behind Prana Chai and Merchant Guild, and is based around superfood-packed dishes that are chiefly notable for their flavours rather than their health virtues. The idea is to leave feeling a little better than when you arrived, and Bergman & Co’s interior design starts the process going before a juice has been pressed. The pastel wash on the wooden cupboard doors, large stretches of whitewashed brick punctuated with coloured glass, and pale wooden tables and seats all exert a calming influence and set the mind drifting in contemplative mood.
