Everybody loves a good bargain, and at the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin’s Museum of Photography they’re offering the sale of the century for photography lovers, pairing an exhibition of the main man’s work alongside that of contemporary Frank Horvat and young colleague Szymon Brodziak. That’s three for the price of one, and the price of one is only a trifling 10€. The Newton section of the exhibition is the second part of his permanent loan collection. It includes more than 70 original vintage prints in the fields of fashion, nudes, portraits and self-portraits, and many are being shown for the first time at the museum.

Frank Horvat began his career in the late ’50s, and was soon a regular contributor to the fashion pages of Elle, Vogue, and later Harper’s Bazaar. The Croatian-born artist’s work is recognisable for his unusual staging, in which models are often depicted with ordinary people creating surprising contrasts. Now in his late eighties, Horvat continues to work from his home in France, and recently released a digital archive of his work, Horvatland, which he also made available as an iPad app. Szymon Brodziak‘s images are taken from his recent monograph One, in which he presents visual stories with a predominantly female cast. His large format black and white photographs blend elegance and eroticism, often employing – and at the same time questioning – clichés of fashion and nude photography.
