Ian Schrager rolls back the years with an extravagantly lavish hotel within Manhattan's striking Clocktower...

London has had the treatment, followed by Miami’s South Beach, and now New York is the latest city to enjoy a sprinkle of the Ian Shrager stardust as the legendary hospitality guru cuts the ribbon on his New York Edition hotel.

New York Edition, New York

The Studio 54 magnate’s in-house design team partnered with Rockwell Group’s best and brightest on the venue, located inside the Metropolitan Life Tower just over the road from Madison Square Park. The building is a much-loved part of the Manhattan skyline; known locally as The Clocktower, the Gothic building opened in 1909 and was modelled on the Campanile in Venice.

The Clocktower nickname has been borrowed for one of New York Edition’s most impressive facilities: the restaurant helmed by the Michelin-starred British chef Jason Atherton. Found on the second floor (designated a city landmark), it is composed of five rooms with their own theme revolving around American culture. Great American artists grace the bar, musicians line the walls of the billiard room, and the three dining rooms share New York street scenes and American icons. New York Edition has a total of 273 guest rooms, with many featuring vaulted ceilings in reference to the building’s striking architectural style and all including a print by photographer Melvin Sokolsky. As one might expect, the three penthouses located on floors 29 to 31 are the box seats with incredible views of the city from around 700 feet up.
