Duncan Jago (that’s Mr Jago to you), one of the Bristol street art movement’s biggest success stories, has returned to mural painting for a special commission at Unit London.
The international star, founding member of the Scrawl Collective, stepped out of the spotlight and into the shadowy confines of the gallery’s basement “incubator” space to create the work as part of an exhibition of new pieces.
NIL is the name of the collection, summing up, we’re told, how much faith the artist places in the viewer. Charming. Jago does admit to serious bouts of pessimism, in conflict (or perhaps balanced) with periods of huge optimism, and as he continues to explore more abstract territory, it’s left up to the viewer to interpret whether it’s man or nature that’s coming out on top in his contemporary landscapes. NIL features Jago’s first venture into oil, as well as acrylic and spray paint on canvas; catch the show from 23 October to 20 November.
