Showing since October at New York art space Maccarone, Phanos Kyriacou’s Daily Life sits art and craft side by side, in a minimal installation that calls on the human stories that exist in the hinterland between workshops and the everyday use of the resulting objects. Collecting objects from his hometown of Nicosia, the Cypriot artist takes smithereens of monobloc chairs; scraps of ceramics; cactus leaves; steel frames, and creates new contexts for these physical abstractions.
Evoking the dusty urban and rural settings of Cyprus in a cool NYC gallery space, Phanos Kyriacou’s moving Daily Life continues till 19 December.
