Tandoor Chop House, Covent Garden

Bombay Mix: heaven-sent pairing of Indian and British traditions will leave London's carnivores insatiable...

Carnivores of Covent Garden, the prayers you never knew you had have been answered. It’s a simple but brilliant concept at new restaurant Tandoor Chop House, where fine cuts go hand-in-hand with epic naan, spicy sides and good times at this amalgam of North Indian communal eatery and the classic British chop house.

Tandoor Chop House Covent Garden London, Ennismore Restaurant

Undoubtedly the fleshy flavoursome food is the draw here, although its three tandoor ovens not only turn out dishes like amritsari crispy lamb chops, tandoor chicken (half a corn-fed chicken in a marinade of hung curd, garlic, ginger, and spices, cooked and charred), and masala pollock; they add a sense of theatre and a contagious smokey aroma that can render seemingly normal folk drooling messes.

Located just off Strand on Adelaide Street, the restaurant, branding and interiors are the brainchild of Ennismore (the guys behind the global expansion of The Hoxton, as well as Notting Hill’s EGGBREAK and Clerkenwell’s Breddos); the latter a perfect mix of the hallowed Irani cafés of turn-of-the-century Bombay and our very own iconic chop houses. As well as the tandoors, vintage dabbas (small polished-brass Indian lunch boxes) feature throughout; contrasting against reclaimed oak panelling, scarlet leather banquettes, marble tables and an attractive mosaic floor.
