For many people, Barcelona is synonymous with the architecture of one Antoni Gaudí. Turn-of-the-century modernist masterpieces fill the Eixample district, and the buildings still attract thousands of visitors a year; some on the tourist trail, others in search of inspiration. Just a stone’s through away from one of Gaudí’s most famous creations — La Pedrera — you’ll find the latest H10 boutique hotel: Casa Mimosa.
In honour of it’s privileged location, H10 and local design studio Tarruella Trenchs have sought to create a homage to the architecture and design of the Eixample neighbourhood. Original features like a sweeping central staircase, parquet floors and plaster moulded fireplaces lend an air of the grandiose mansion house yet blend effortlessly with contemporary brass fittings and mid-century modern furniture. Rooms are exceedingly posh; dressed in soft neutrals, warm lighting by Marset and Metalarte and Parachilna adding a splash of sophistication, and contemporary wooden headboards and brass fittings keeping a modern and up to date look.
Taking their inspiration from the modernist movement’s interest in all things natural, Tarruella Trenchs put a neutral colour palette into use throughout the hotel, focussing on naturally-occurring shades, creating an elegant, timeless mood. That nature theme continues on the outdoor patio and swimming pool area, where trees and bushes recreate the romantic aesthetic of traditional Eixample gardens. A former coach house has also been transformed into a meeting space where, in keeping with the natural aesthetic, custom-made wooden pieces by AOO studio sit alongside an original fireplace brought from the main space.
The homage to modernism and the Eixample culminates in a spectacular rooftop terrace where you can sit back and reflect on the genius of Gaudí with views of the stunning La Pedrera.
