Literally meaning ‘the first house’, Casa Um is located near Tavira on Portugal’s Algarve coast, the former shepherd’s house offering visitors some seriously splendid views over the Atlantic Ocean, with easy access to surrounding villages and coastline. Situated in a secluded spot amongst orange groves, the property has been renovated by Atelier Rua (with curated interiors from creative studio, Studio Stories) and is a modernist take on Portuguese traditions; a minimalist and contemporary space which is as homely as it is glossy-magazine stunning.
Split over two levels, the communal areas can be found on the upper floor whilst the bedrooms, with en-suite bathrooms and private patios, are located downstairs. Huge windows overlook an interior patio, terraces and garden; the patio also home to an old bread oven, perfect for enjoying your first coffee of the day under the summer sun. The original farmhouse has been converted into a modern kitchen and living room, whilst the former stables at the opposite end of the house is now a dining room with views of the swimming pool and over to a meadow area. Located on a domain of one hectare, and with space for up to eight guests, Casa Um is an idyllic destination for passing a few days in the company of family or like-minded friends.
