Working towards a brief of ‘beers, beach and baos,’ Valencian designers, Clap Studio, have created a place where diners are transported to a place of colour and creative chaos with simple food to boot; Baovan Valencia an inspired bolt of energy for the Mediterranean city.
The brand started as a home delivery service, and has strong links to the sea, founder Nacho and his partners inspired by living and travelling around Asia, America and Africa. Wanting to bring to Valencia something with “a sprit of adventure,” and moved by the surfing they’d enjoyed on their travels, the creative spirit of Baovan was born.
The restaurant is split into three distinct areas: The Forest, The Sand, and The Sea. Entering through the forest, the diner is greeted by more than 5,000 metres of rope that dangles from the ceiling, before arriving at ‘the beach,’ where a screen in the shape of a half-moon attracts the eyes of diners. Designed by Vitamin Studio, the screen recreates the colours of a sunset and is programmed to last the duration of dinner service.
Interiors have a strong link to land, sea, sky and moon, with blues, oranges, and greens throughout. The ceiling features a blanket of clouds that brings a magical atmosphere to the interior, reflecting the lights of the sunset that is in constant movement. This enables diners to ‘effectively’ enjoy dinner under the moonlight. Shapes including circles and crescents are repeated throughout the space, nodding to the shape of the bao bread which dominates the menu. From Pulled Pork, Duck and Hoisin, to bao brimming with Calamari, and veggie options, diners need not just be here for the interiors alone.
An inspired restaurant brimming with ideas, innovation and Instagrammability, Baovan Valencia is another fine concept for the award-winning studio helmed by designers Jordi Iranzo and Àngela Montagud.
