The first in a series of exhibitions celebrating contemporary Danish ceramics at Copenhagen’s aptly named Copenhagen Ceramics gallery, You Will See is a compelling, often confusing, solo show by Detroit-based Dane Anders Ruhwald. Exploring our relationships with objects that we recognise as controlling movement – traffic cones, barriers etc. – Ruhwald asks whether, interpreting them in ceramics, they become repurposed as cultural objects, or remain the same objects just rendered in a different material. As we said, compelling and confusing. That being said, You Will See is visually quite dramatic, the complexities of the concept don’t interfere with the quirky, curiously bizarre nature of the exhibition’s pieces; and even without a total grasp of what Ruhwald is trying to say, it certainly makes for intriguing viewing. Make your own mind up; You Will See shows at Copenhagen Ceramics until 28th January…
