José Andrés’s innovative mezze restaurant, Zaytinya, has finally arrived in New York, the 140-cover destination restaurant located within the Ritz Carlton, featuring a menu of classical Turkish, Greek, and Lebanese cuisines served up in a slick setting put together by top-tier architecture and design studio, Rockwell Group.
A celebration of the two Michelin-starred chef’s expansive knowledge of European cuisine, Zaytinya’s menu pairs perfectly with the airy space, Rockwell Group’s design including the glistening blue of the Mediterranean Sea, a light and neutral palette of warming bronze metals and white oak woods, pattern detailing and specially commissioned artwork.
Following years of research and travel, Andrés has designed a menu featuring small sharing plates of authentic and innovative fare, creative cocktails and unique Mediterranean wines, which will be overseen by head chef Jose Ayala in this NoMad venue.
In the dining room, guests eat beneath exposed wood ceiling beams interspersed with acoustic linen-textured panels that correspond to the floor bands to create a sense of rhythm throughout the space. Layers of sheer blue ombré curtain line the vast floor to ceiling street-facing windows providing light privacy, enabling diners to be transported from the bustle of NYC to the calm of the Mediterranean coast; Rockwell Group’s soft and undulating curves and an assortment of textures——alongside woven textile pendants in varying shapes and heights——casting a warm hue throughout.
Occupying a vast portion of the back wall of the space, the bar was built with a blue lavastone top and chiselled stone bar die, with a custom backlit backbar screen made of two-toned blue glass discs inspired by the Evil Eye ‘Mati,’ sure to catch the attention of revellers.
With its popular, older sibling located in Washington D.C. Zaytinya at The Ritz-Carlton New York sees José Andrés bring his mezze magic from the country’s capital to its culinary one.
