Serving made-from-scratch recipes in the heart of Downtown Corpus Christi, Central Kitchen fills soul and stomach with baked goods, soups and sandwiches from a sweet little spot on Lomax St. Put together by Gin Design Group, Central Kitchen Corpus Christi embodies the idea of a neighbourhood watering hole, giving locals and visitors alike a base to enjoy the simple pleasures of a great coffee and sweet or savoury treat.
Combining nostalgic old world charm with subtle design quirks that nudge the interiors in a more modern direction, Gin Design Group also looked to French-influenced New Orleans landmark, Cafe du Monde, whilst remaining loyal to its Gulf roots through a display of vintage photographs, news clippings and found objects.
Open daily from 6am to 2pm, fresh-baked crusty breads, light and buttery pastries, hearty sandwiches, soups and much more are house-made each day, and all are shown off on fabricated adjustable shelves that climb the wall behind the service counter; as well as inside the glass counter itself.
Those looking to stay a while can settle in to banquette seating and enjoy every bite as well as the fine interiors. From floor-to-ceiling green and white handmade tiling to warm wood tones accented by terracotta and greenery, and touches of nostalgia like individually sourced vintage flour sacks framed on the walls and a custom collage of cutting boards and rolling pins by local artisan Hannah Bailey, Central Kitchen Corpus Christi oozes a personality that fully embraces the diversity of its cuisine and the character of its hometown.
