Lauded as Boston‘s first Art Deco skyscraper, the Batterymarch Building was the city’s tallest downtown structure when it opened in 1928. Today, the Harold Field Kellogg-designed edifice is home to The Dagny Boston, a 403-room independent lifestyle hotel paying homage to the building’s history whilst attending to the needs of the modern day traveller.
The world-renowned design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) — the excellence behind projects including The Royal Senses in Crete and Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya — led the renovation, which includes 377 newly redesigned guestrooms and 26 refurbished suites; 15 meeting rooms, and 9,000 square feet of creatively minded meeting space; and a 2,000 square foot fitness centre which is located on the third floor and offers sweeping views of the city to enjoy whilst using the state-of-the-art equipment from Technogym and Peloton.
Guestrooms are residential in feel and are infused with Art Deco influences and curated curiosities that nod to the legends of the city. With views of Downtown Boston or the Boston Harbour, and a host of ‘elevated’ amenities, those who stay at the The Dagny are invited to immerse themselves in a world where play and purpose harmoniously coexist.
The hotel houses two of the city’s atmospheric culinary, cocktail and coffee destinations: the locally loved Tradesman Coffee Shop and Lounge, known for its playful signature croissants, specialty coffees and all day-menu that transforms into a cocktail hour by night. That’s all as well as the fine-dining restaurant, Fin Point Oyster Bar and Grille, where locals and travellers converge to enjoy quality seafood, indulging in New England classics at its decadent raw bar and ocean-to-table plates.
Declared a landmark by the Boston Landmarks Commission in 1995 due to its remarkable design and contribution to Boston’s architectural history (the lobby ceiling still boasts the original goldleaf Art Deco mural of Atlas carrying the world on his shoulders with the skyline of the City of Boston appearing on the horizon), HBA have designed a hotel of equal parts tradition and modernity.
Named using Old Norse words for ‘new day’, The Dagny marks the launch of a captivating new era for this iconic location, and offers a chance for curious travellers to bed down in a building rich in American history.
