Located in the lively Villeray district of Montréal, Casavant is a new neighbourhood joint, a French brasserie-style restaurant where good times and good dines are the name of the game.
With design by architecture and design studio, MRDK, the 45-capacity space blends Art Deco influences with a contemporary approach which, alongside its warm ambience and moreish dishes, gives Casavant a unique charm. Situated on a street corner with opening windows, the restaurant enjoys an abundance of natural light, helping to make the 850 square foot space appear larger than it actually is.
The interior exudes a distinct charm with 3D-patterned floor tiles and beige wall tiles. Burnt orange corduroy banquettes add a touch of sophistication and colour while the centrepiece — an impressive custom wine cellar crafted from white oak and showcasing an extensive selection of natural wines — ensures that Casavant’s patrons never go thirsty.
The energetic kitchen is noticeable from the moment your enter the restaurant, guests able to see the effort that goes into creating their dishes. And, for those who look up, the ceiling boasts a unique patterned alcove made from vivid acoustic panels that contribute to the restaurant’s eclectic and inviting character as well as assisting with acoustical comfort.
Art comes courtesy of local artist Nicolas Grenier, whose wall painting nods to the rich artistic culture of Montreal, while a vintage Medusa pendant light by Carlo Nason is visible from the street and draws attention to Casavant; attracting passers-by and visitors to the charming brasserie.
