Surely everyone’s had this dream at some point in their lives. Life-size Lego blocks to muck around with ’til your heart’s content. The Dutch pairing of artist Filip Jonker and agency Project.DWG – aka LOOS.FM – have gone one step further, taking your sorry little dreams overground and acting them out in the big-boy’s real world; with the help of Legioblocks (Lego-like concrete blocks), and considerable tins of primary colour paint.
Stacking the painted blocks together, LOOS.FM created a fairly sensational temporary pavilion for Enschede’s annual GrensWerk Festival – a full-on Lego church, complete with 20-metre spire. Leaving spaces between the blocks, the temporary space let sunlight in through the day and radiated a soft glow come night; with events, concerts and general festivities taking place inside. Fully demountable, the pavilion’s bold blocks will be re-imagined over the festival’s next 5 years. We wonder if the designers have seen the limited edition Lego Guggenheim Museum or Burj Khalifa yet? Now that would be a remarkable achievement…
