Answer the call of the disco ball at Singapore haunt, Another Bar. A destination for an unforgettable night out, the bar was designed by local studio Hui Designs, who followed a brief for the new bar to be “fun, playful, sociable, unpretentious, interactive, and with a hint of grunge.”
Having worked with the owners before on another project, Hui Lim knew exactly how she’d approach the design, creating a modern ‘warehouse’ industrial feel accented with pops of vermillion hues and retro touches that include disco balls, a ’90s box television playing music videos, and vintage speakers throughout.
Opening at 6pm for afterwork drinks, Another Bar switches the energy levels as night falls, dimming the lights and turning up the music. Fuelled by dinner, drinks, and dancing, guests are encouraged to “Rally their friends and make new ones over a friendly game of beer pong and toast to camaraderie,” such is the euphoria to be experienced here.
Due to the site having huge columns which divided the space and affected the ceiling heights, Lim opted to work with them as opposed to against them, and created pockets of space with varying ceiling heights and forms that are dotted with playful elements throughout. Punchy neon signs, meanwhile, were chosen to encourage exploration as guests move from one zone to the next.
The bar counter is the main focal and vantage point, where the pulpit-like DJ booth branches out from the left of the counter. An LED ticker tape sign runs across the bar allowing interaction with the patrons. The bar counter fascia is clad in panels painted in vermilion and aqua blue wood grain patterns which glow in the dark, whilst to the right of the bar counter, a games area with beer pong tables is set up.
An adult playground in its purest form, Another Bar Singapore is far from simply just ‘another bar,’ rather a contemporary and playful update of the classic dive bar; an inspired spot for pleasure seekers in this island state.
