They clearly don’t have that whole ‘7 years of bad luck’ thing in Sweden. Whilst in town for the recent Stockholm Design Week, we dropped in on super-stylish hotel Berns to review their Asiatiska restaurant (more on that to come) – and, whilst we expected good things in terms of design and cuisine, it’s fair to say we didn’t expect to see a shattering full-wall mirror, suspended in time.
Installed during design week, Unexploited Spaces was conceived by the students of Beckmans College of Design – whose young designers also impressed us with their Never Mind the Object show – in collaboration with historic cutlery manufacturers Gense; and continues the their theme of questioning perspectives and perceptions of objects.
Theatrical and enchanting, the feeling that you were frozen in a moment of ambiguity and uncertainty was unnervingly hypnotic; the elegant period setting only serving to heighten the installation’s beauty. If only all dining rooms were this dramatic.
